Age of Wonders 4 becomes fastest-selling game in franchise history with 250k units sold in four days
Paradox Interactive has released the first sales figures for Age of Wonders 4. The game has become a huge success for Dutch developer Triumph Studios.
According to Paradox Interactive’s blog post, Age of Wonders 4 has sold over 250,000 units globally in just four days since its launch on May 3.
The publisher noted Triumph Studios’ latest turn-based strategy game is the “fastest-selling title in the Age of Wonders series to date.” Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester also called Age of Wonders 4 a “wonderful testament to how our two companies match, right down to the DNA.”
Lennart Sas, co-founder of Triumph Studios and game director of Age of Wonders 4, added that”there’s always a delicate balancing act involved in designing a sequel, especially for a long-running series with so many dedicated fans.” He also thanked all the players for their support and great reception.

As we reported last week, a strong launch helped Age of Wonders 4 break into the top 10 games by peak concurrent players in Paradox Interactive’s portfolio. At the moment of writing, it peaked at 42,877 concurrent users (via SteamDB).
Despite Age of Wonders 4’s huge success, it is hard to compare the figures with all previous games in the franchise due to the lack of official data.
The first game in the series came out in 1999 and received positive reviews from critics. According to data provided to Computer Gaming World by publisher Gathering of Developers (G.O.D.) , it had sold 71,000 units by October 2001. The game reached 200,000 copies sold in March 2001.
The exact sales of Age of Wonders II remain undisclosed, but the third main installment in the series, released in 2014, had sold over 500,000 units globally by March 2016. The success of Age of Wonders III led to Paradox Interactive acquiring Triumph Studios for $4.5 million in 2017.
