Krafton bought Unknown Worlds studio, developers of Subnautica
At the end of last week, Krafton announced a new deal. The South Korean company that owns PUBG has acquired the Unknown Worlds studio. She is known for the successful game Subnautica. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.Subnautica: Below Zero
According to Krafton, the purchase of Unknown Worlds will allow her to replenish her gaming portfolio and create new titles and IP.
Subnautica developers will retain independence and leadership. The studio is currently working on a new unannounced game, which Krafton describes as a “genre-defining” project. It should be released in 2022.This is the sixth studio acquired by a South Korean company. She already owns PUBG Studios, Bluehole, RisingWings, Dreamotion and Striking Distance Studios.
Unknown Worlds was founded in 2001 by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire. Her career began with the release of Natural Selection, a fashion for Half—Life, which soon turned into a full-fledged game. The studio gained the greatest fame after the release of the indie hit Subnautica and its sequel Subnautica: Below Zero.
Recall that this year Kratfon entered the stock exchange, as a result of which the company’s valuation amounted to $ 18.4 billion. However, its shares as a result fell by 20% due to investors’ fears that Kratfon may remain the publisher of one hit game. Perhaps, with the help of investments and the acquisition of new studios, the company wants to prove the opposite.
