Activision Blizzard has bought the Digital Legends mobile studio. She will play in the Call of Duty universe
Activision Blizzard has announced the purchase of a mobile studio. A Barcelona-based Digital Legends developer specializing in shooters has passed into her hands. The amount and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
According to the press release, Digital Legends will “help” other Activision Blizzard studios with the development of an unannounced mobile game within the IP Call of Duty. Now three studios are working on this project at once: Beenox, Activision Shanghai and the recently opened Activision Solid State.
Digital Legends collaborated with Activision Blizzard before it became known about its purchase. According to Chris Plummer, head of Activision’s mobile business, the companies have been working together for “most of this year.”
There are no details about the upcoming Call of Duty title yet.
Recall that in the fall of 2019, Activision Blizzard released the first mobile game in the Call of Duty universe — Call of Duty: Mobile. During the premiere year, she collected over 300 million downloads, and her revenue was $ 480 million. This made Call of Duty: Mobile the third highest-grossing mobile shooter in the USA. As the company suggests, by the end of 2021, the title’s revenues may already exceed $ 1 billion.
Activision Blizzard is also currently working on the mobile Diablo Immortal. Later, she plans to release a project in the Warcraft universe on smartphones.
Digital Legends was founded in 2001 in Barcelona, Spain. She has collaborated with companies such as Electronic Arts, Disney, Nokia and Adidas. Among the studio’s games, the most famous are Respawnables and Afterpulse shooters.
