Netflix bought Night School Studio — developer Oxenfree and Afterparty

Netflix bought its first game studio. She became the Night School Studio, known primarily for the mystical adventure game Oxenfree. The amount and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

So far, the companies have revealed only that Night School Studio will preserve its culture and creative vision. The studio will also continue to work on the second part of Oxenfree and will continue to work on new original games.

All the developer’s games will appear in the Netflix library.

As Mike Verdu, vice president of Netflix gaming, noted, his company is not going to limit itself to buying Night School Studio: “We will continue to cooperate with developers around the world and hire the best specialists in the industry. This will allow us to create an excellent collection of exclusive games for all types of gamers.”

Netflix’s gaming ambitions became known in July. This was initially reported by the Bloomberg portal, and a few days later the information was confirmed by the company itself. According to the management of the service, at first they will prefer mobile titles. The first mobile games on Netflix appeared at the end of August. However, only in Poland.

Yesterday, according to Techcrunch, the company also opened access to games for Spain and Italy. Gamers from these countries can play five titles so far: Shooting Hoops, Teeter Up, Card Blast, Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3.

Night School Studio was founded in 2014 by immigrants from Telltale and Disney. Her portfolio includes such games as: Oxenfree, Afterparty, Next Stop Nowhere and Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltrati0n.ipa. The last two are mobile. Oxenfree also has a smartphone version.
