After the release of Half-Life: Alyx, the share of VR players on Steam has doubled
Before the release of Half-Life: Alyx, it was predicted that the game would attract new VR users to Steam. And so it turned out. But the percentage of VR helmet owners is still insignificant: only 1.9% of all Steam players.
Half-Life: Alyx was released in the store on March 23. In April, a report on Steam-related devices showed that the number of VR players increased by 0.62 percentage points, UploadVR reports,
According to media reports, at the end of 2019, there were about 100 million users on Steam. VR players among them, thus, are about 2 million.
Note that the circulation of Half-Life: Alyx in March, according to SuperData, was 860 thousand copies. It could have been even higher if not for the shortage of VR helmets associated with the coronavirus. At the start, 42.9 thousand Steam users played the title.
Now the most popular VR headset on Steam is HTC Vive (it accounts for 26% of VR users). The Oculus Rift S is next (22%). Recall also that after the announcement of Alyx, sales of its own Valve — Index helmet soared.
