Backers Invested $16.3 million in Video Games on Kickstarter in 2019
Last year, $16.3 million was invested in video games on Kickstarter. This is only 3% more than the result of 2018.
The success of projects in the “Video Games” category was analyzed by Ico Partners. According to their data:
- In 2019, 1,428 games raised money on Kickstarter. This is 73 projects less than a year earlier;
- 380 video games have successfully completed the campaign. In 2018, there were fewer of them: 352 projects.
Despite the drop in the number of video games, their popularity on Kickstarter has increased slightly. Since 2017, the dynamics of fundraising has been negative and reached a six-year low in 2018. Now the situation has improved. Although the results of 2013 ($47.6 million) or even 2015 ($41.5 million) of the “Video Games” category are very far away.
Analysts also noted that during the year there were much more games funded in the amount of $ 10-50 thousand (132 projects against 113 in 2019). This monetary category has been growing for the last three years. But in the largest — from $ 500 thousand — there are no serious changes.
Let’s add that most of the backers finance gaming campaigns in US dollars. The euro is in second place in the list of popular currencies, and Canadian dollars are in third place.
