China's NetEase has acquired a minority stake in the British Bossa Studios

The expansion of Chinese publishers into the Western market continues. NetEase has become one of the major shareholders of Bossa Studios, the publisher of Surgeon Simulator. The deal could amount to $30 million.

Details are unknown. It is only reported that NetEase led the investment round of the “B” series. It is unclear exactly how much it amounted to. The range of $10-30 million is called.

Bossa Studios has already attracted third-party financing twice before. As part of the venture round in 2016, $ 1.4 million was raised, then, in 2017, the publisher was able to realize its assets by $ 10 million (then Atomico and Makers Fund were investors).

For NetEase, such a step is part of a strategy to strengthen its presence in the international market. Despite local successes, the Chinese publisher is striving to diversify its gaming business, to insure against restrictions in its native market.

Bossa Studios will become the fourth Western company in which NetEase has invested over the past year and a half. Previously, she also invested various amounts in studios such as Quantic Dream, Bungie and A44.

As an asset, Bossa Studios is now raising questions. The company is mainly known for the Surgeon Simulator series. Her acclaimed MMO Worlds Adrift was closed in July this year due to a lack of players. As for the latest release (The Bradwell Conspiracy), which was released this October, it went unnoticed.
