The Untitled ventures Co-founder's Fund will finance major console game developers

Leading game studios need to be supported by the ruble, says Konstantin Sinyushin, co-founder of The Untitled ventures. In July, he and the managing partners will launch the Caravan Fund investment fund.

The purpose of the fund is to finance the creation of action—packed singleplayer games for consoles.

Only the most promising projects from the world’s leading developers will be selected. The planned volume of the fund will be $ 50 million, and the minimum entry threshold for an investor is $ 500 thousand.

In a Facebook post, Sinyushin explained why this particular niche was chosen. According to him, console action-packed games bring guaranteed revenue. They have a “very long sales trail.” And the gaming market itself is comparable in volume to the market of the film industry.

Sinyushin also explained the need to invest in large studios, and not in startups. The development of console games is much more expensive than, for example, mobile. Therefore, even the largest gaming companies need project financing, he added.

Not everyone in the comments under Sinyushin’s post shares this position. A number of experts doubted that console projects bring almost one hundred percent benefit. Although Sinyushin emphasized the “non-venture” of the fund, the comments pointed to quite venture risks.

Also criticize the choice of genre for investment.

And why single-player games? So also action-packed. What is wrong with network games that have a life cycle of 4-5 years on average with a probability of extension due to additional content, unlike single 0.5-1 years?

Direct experts of the gaming industry also spoke in the comments.

This is very little money for such positioning, plus they are very reluctant to let anyone into this niche.
