THQ Nordic acquired the rights to Outcast

Outcast – Second Contact
Today, January 10, THQ Nordic announced another purchase.

The publisher, which has been actively buying up the rights to AA titles in recent years, acquired the Outcast gaming brand from three developers of the original game.

Neither the amount of the transaction nor its details are reported.

Recall that the first version of Outcast was released in 1999. The game is a third—person action adventure whose gameplay is based on exploring large open locations. In 2017, a remake of the project appeared on Unity. The same team that did the 99th project was responsible for the development of the latter.

Despite the cult status of the original, the Outcast remake had low sales. The project, according to SteamSpy, today cannot boast an audience of even 20 thousand people. This is not the first setback for the project development team. In 2014, they tried to raise $600,000 on Kickstarter to release an HD version of the old version of the game. They did not manage to collect even half of the required amount.

What THQ Nordic will do with such an asset is a big question. However, this applies to most of her recent acquisitions. In December, the company acquired the rights to the Carmageddon series, in November — to Expeditions, and in September, for example, it noted the purchase of Alone in the Dark.
