Niantic has bought the developers of an application to create 3D avatars based on photos
The author of the mobile hit Pokémon Go, Niantic acquired the startup Evertoon, which developed the iOS app Evertoon App. It generates three-dimensional models based on photos, shoot short videos with their participation and share videos on social networks.
The amount of the transaction between Niantic and Evertoon was not disclosed. Judging by the official message of Niantic, the company is not interested in the Evertone product itself, but in the experience of its authors in developing tools for social interaction of users.
According to TechCrunch, after the sale of Niantic, Evertoon will close its application.
“The Evertoon team is exploring new social mechanics for digital products. It will help build social systems that will benefit our entire community,” said Niantic CEO John Hanke.
Hanke said that Evertoon employees will add a social platform to Niantic games: Pokémon Go, Ingress and future titles. He did not specify what exactly this platform would be.
The Evertoon App was released in 2016. According to Wang, she wanted to make a publicly available tool for creating stories.
The company raised $1.7 million at the seed stage of investment.
