A Chinese company has bought part of the developer Halo and Call of Duty
The Chinese group of companies Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited has acquired 20% of the studio Certain Affinity, which participated in the development of Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Leyou Technologies invested $10 million in Certain Affinity.
Under the terms of the deal, Leyou Technologies will also provide the studio with an interest-free loan of up to $15 million in the future for the development of the original game “based on certain intellectual property.” Leyou will help to release the game and will receive part of the net income from it.
In addition, the deal provides for the opportunity to buy the rest of Certain Affinity by 2021 for a price of no more than $150 million.
Leyou Technologies was first heard about in the video game industry in the summer of 2015, when the group acquired 58% of the Canadian studio Digital Extremes, which developed a fantastic MMO action Warframe.
In June 2016, Leyou Technologies bought Splash Damage studio, known as the creator of the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Brink shooters.
Previously, Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited was known as the poultry meat producer Sumpo Food Holdings Limited. In 2015, the group’s management decided to change its development strategy and diversify its business by investing in the video game industry.
According to the financial report for 2015, approximately 80% of the group’s revenues were generated by poultry production and processing, while video games brought the organization about 70% of net profit.
