Wanting to strengthen its position in the mobile games market, which has an annual turnover of about $ 36 billion, Wargaming, which became famous thanks to the World of Tanks series, announced its arrival in Finland.

In Finland, the tank giant acquires the studio Boomlagoon, specializing in mobile development, and also opens a new office, within which it will create games for iOS and Android.

Boomlagoon is known primarily as a company founded by Antti Stén, the lead server programmer of the original Angry Birds, and Tuomas Erikoinen, the lead artist of Angry Birds. Both left Rovio in 2012 to found Boomlagoon.

However, the company did not succeed with the projects. The first game – Noble Nutlings – closed, the second – Monsu – at the start reached 226th place in the US box office top of iOS applications, and then left the top, the peak for the third – Spirit Hunter – was 981 places in the box office top. In September, Tuomas left the company. Now Boomlagoon is making a clone of Clash Royale – Super Soldiers.

Boomlagoon joins Wargaming as a new legal entity – Wargaming Helsinki. The head of the studio will remain its current CEO Anti.
