FunPlus invests $50 million in "the future of indie games"
FunPlus has created a $50 million investment fund. The purpose of this foundation is to “promote outstanding independent developers and artists of the gaming industry.”

FunPlus will support mainly mobile developers.
But the CA of the foundation will not be limited to them. This was reported to the GamesIndustry resource.biz FunPlus CEO for Strategic Issues Dan Fiden (Dan Fiden).
“Our new initiative is more than just a foundation for developers. This is an exciting opportunity to invest in the future of indie games,” Fiden said. “By finding and supporting outstanding ideas and talents with the help of our resources and knowledge, we invest in those people who will determine the future of the industry.”
Among such talents, Fiden named, in particular, the creator of Threes! Asher Vollmer. The Fund has already invested a certain amount in Vollmer’s studio – Sirvo. The money will be spent on the development and promotion of the Guildlings game (we, recall, talked about the project the other day).
Fiden told what qualities the foundation is looking for in projects and developers. “We are interested in developers who invest talent and time in creating new genres. We are not interested in working with game creators who focus on improving existing genres or on reducing their own creative risks and business risks. It seems to us that real commercial success comes when developers come up with something really new,” he said.
The exact number of projects that the fund will support has not yet been announced. Similarly, it is not known how much the investment in one game is limited to. Fiden informs that each case will be considered separately. For example, VR projects, according to Fiden, require larger investments. “The most important thing for us is to give the team the capital, which, in its opinion, will be enough to implement the conceived game,” he says.
