Microsoft: games account for a third of all downloads
In the period from October to December 2015, games accounted for 32% of all downloads from the Windows Store. This became known from a report that Microsoft recently published.
The most popular genre has become adventure and action games (Action & adventure). Puzzles and quizzes are in second place. Fighting games close the list by a wide margin.
Microsoft also provides information on the most promising genres. The company defines the possible popularity of games as follows: it calculates the number of downloads in a certain category in relation to the number of games. For example, "Games" is the most downloaded category. But in the category "Maps and navigation" (Navigation & Maps) there are more downloads for every available app. From this, the company concludes that "Maps and Navigation" is a more promising category than "Games".
Microsoft considers racing and flight simulators (Racing and flying) to be the most promising game genre. The least promising one is fighting games again.
The largest number of transactions are made by residents of the United States.
In-game purchases bring the most revenue to developers. In second place is the advertising placed using the Microsoft Advertising grid.
The category in which purchases are most often made is "Puzzles and quizzes".
