Indie Game Cup 2015 - the third three

App2Top.ru Before the opening, White Nights 2015 introduces the projects that entered the second round of the Indie Game Cup 2015. Today we will briefly talk about the third three projects.

The game is about a gloomy future in which the planet Earth is left at the mercy of crazy machines that have taken up the destruction of the ecosystem instead of restoring it. The player acts as the last intelligent machine, which will have to correct the situation in a fight with a damaged system – structure.

In terms of gameplay, it is rather a leisurely top-down shooter, rather than a platformer, as the developers position it – the Tomsk Extent5 Game Studio team. You fly through the levels, solve puzzles on them, usually associated with alternating abilities, and destroy enemies.

Visually, the game resembles Badland: game objects are presented as silhouettes interacting with each other against the background of colored backdrops.


Message Quest

A cozy quest about the messenger of Feste, whose story begins with a simple task – to carry a scroll.

In general, a nice project suffers from the fact that a number of riddles are built not on the compilation of a logical chain, all the links of which are initially known (or at least understandable), but on the need to tap on this or that object several times.

For example, the main character needs to get ready for the road. Using common sense, click on the hanger and the boots under it. Feste takes boots, but clicking on the hanger does not give anything, although it remains interactive. For an ordinary player, this means that another thing needs to be looked for elsewhere. But in Message Quest, on the contrary, you need to press the hanger until the sandwich falls out of there.

The game also has a curious approach to graphics: it is stylized as frescoes. This is both a virtue and a disadvantage at once. The plus is that it makes the project stand out and, apparently, the production of such content is cheaper. The disadvantage is that because of this, it is not always clear what kind of object appears before us. I didn’t realize until I watched the passage on YouTube that there was dirt on the windows in the second scene, I thought it was also a fresco.


Oddwings Escape

The project from Finnish developers from Small Giant Games is very similar to Earn to Die, but not in gameplay, but in internal logic.

You control a bird that collects coins in flight. The bird’s strength runs out quickly, so the player must also collect hearts hung on the levels that recharge it. For coins, the player pumps the bird. Without pumping the bird, you will not fly far, because the further the player passes, the greater the distance between the hearts.

The game features nice graphics and crazy characters in a good way: the birds in the game are not ordinary, but escaped from the laboratory of a mad scientist.
