The triumph of well-known IPs and the success of indie games: The highest-grossing releases of May on PC and consoles in numbers and charts

May 2026 will be remembered as a month of successful titles from major franchises and licenses. Among them were several box office hits. More about the sales, revenue, and other metrics of the main releases of the past month in our traditional section.

The games discussed in this article are:

• Revenue, sales, and other metrics of May's biggest releases: Forza Horizon 6, Subnautica 2, 007 First Light, LEGO Batman, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and others;
• Data on indie hits and notable new releases: Paralives, Dead as Disco, Everything is Crab, Gamble With Your Friends, Mina the Hollower, Farever, and more;
• The most anticipated June releases by wishlists: Gothic 1 Remake, Solarpunk, Burglin’ Gnomes, Killer Bean, and others.

To assess sales, revenue, and other metrics, we relied not only on official data from developers and publishers but also on information from external sources. Among them are Steam charts, as well as data from analytics companies such as Gamalytic, GameDiscoverCo, and Sensor Tower (VG Insights). All figures presented in the article cover the period from the release date of a particular game to May 31, 2026.

Last month, 1,849 new titles were released on Steam, which is a 6.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of these, 360 are games with included profile features (cards, badges, etc.), which surpassed a certain minimum threshold in revenue and number of users.

Ninety titles earned over $100,000, and the gross revenue of 23 projects (1.25%) exceeded $1 million. Out of all May's new releases, 232 received more than 100 reviews, and 44 projects surpassed the 1,000 review mark.
