The indie game trailer for "The Quiet Things" was removed from the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards due to a "compliance decision," according to BAFTA.

Developer Alyx Jones detailed the situation on LinkedIn, mentioning they were informed via phone, en route to the nominee's party, that their game's trailer had been withdrawn.

The game, based on Jones' personal experiences as chronicled in their diaries, touches upon sensitive themes like self-harm, suicide, sexual assault, and childhood maltreatment.

Jones expressed disappointment, stating, "Over the past two weeks, I dedicated myself to crafting this trailer, despite being extremely fatigued, as I saw this as our greatest opportunity for exposure."

The removal was attributed to the lack of time to incorporate correct trigger warnings. Though Jones proposed "immediate further changes," those suggestions were not adopted.

Jones noted extreme frustration with repeated setbacks due to the game's subject matter, feeling that such topics often lead to shut doors. "I’ve remained silent to preserve relationships, faced challenges, and tried hard not to damage connections," Jones emphasized, before sharing the trailer on LinkedIn.

In response to media inquiries, a BAFTA spokesperson stated: "The choice not to show a trailer for an unreleased game was made to ensure the guests' welfare because the event did not allow sufficient time for necessary content warnings."

BAFTA remains supportive of games tackling challenging topics, clarifying that the decision was specific to the event and prioritized guest wellbeing.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip mentioned that future BAFTA Games Awards might include trailers, assessing each from an editorial perspective to negate any commercial benefit. "We might consider featuring sneak peeks, but only if a thorough editorial judgment supports it," Millichip noted.

The recent BAFTA Awards highlighted Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Dispatch, with both securing three awards each. More information about the winners can be accessed here.
