Palworld hits 32 million players across PC and consoles, cementing its place among best-selling indie games
Palworld has reached a new impressive milestone a year after its Early Access launch. Pocketpair’s survival title cements its place among the most successful indie games of all time.
Pocketpair took to social media to reveal that Palworld has surpassed 32 million players globally since its launch on January 19, 2024.
The last time the studio shared any data was on February 22, 2024, when the number of players exceeded 25 million, including 15 million copies sold on Steam and 10 million Xbox users. This means it took Palworld about a year to attract another 7 million gamers.
🎉Over 32 million Pal Tamers!🎉
It’s been a year since Palworld was released, and thanks to you our fans, Palworld has surpassed over 32 million players across all platforms! (Steam, Xbox, PS5)

Palworld has since also made its way to PlayStation, but it is unclear how the audience is split between platforms (we’d assume that Steam still accounts for the majority of the total). Keep in mind that the game is available to Game Pass subscribers, so the exact number of units sold remains undisclosed.
Below are the key milestones for Palworld:
- 1 million copies sold — in its first 8 hours;
- 2 million copies sold — in 24 hours;
- 5 million copies sold — in its first three days;
- 8 million copies sold on Steam — in its first six days;
- 19 million players (including 12 million copies sold on Steam) — in less than two weeks;
- 25 million players — in its first month.
It is difficult to directly compare Palworld’s numbers to other indie games, but it is certainly among the most successful releases of all time. The leaders include hits like Terraria (58.7 million copies sold), Stardew Valley (41 million), Phasmophobia (22 million), and more.
Following its Early Access launch, Palworld also peaked at over 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam. This made it the second biggest release of 2024 by that metric, behind only Black Myth: Wukong (2.4 million CCU).
Last year, Pocketpair faced a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, which accused the studio of patent infringement. The team then revamped the summoning mechanic in Palworld, removing the ability to throw Pal Spheres to summon captured creatures.
