The paid arcade game from the indie studio Tree Men Games has been downloaded 2 million times
The Pako – Car Chase Simulator game from the Finnish team Tree Men Games has been downloaded 2 million times a year since its release.
The project was launched by three indie developers in 2014. This is an arcade game about racing, it costs $0.99 in the App Store and is distributed for free via Google Play. Interestingly, the version for Android devices downloads worse than the version for Apple.
According to the authors of the game, they tried to monetize the shareware version in different ways. They embedded motivated advertising, then tried to add in-game currency for which they could buy additional levels or models of cars. But it didn’t make much difference. The iOS version is still spreading better. The point is the lack of experience with F2P, – suggests producer and one of the three co-founders of the studio Jussi Pullinen (Jussi Pullinen).
“We don’t really understand how to make shareware games, our projects were conceived as paid. Therefore, instead of setting up monetization, we’d rather spend time to release an update to the game. Or we’ll even wash down a new title,” he shares.

At the moment, the income from Pako – Car Chase Simulator is enough to provide a studio.
The team supports the main project and is working on a sequel.
Finnish studio Tree Men Games was created in 2013. The team at the time of its foundation consisted of only three people. None of them had any gaming experience.
