According to the official statement, the layoffs will affect both developers and employees from other departments, including the support team. The total number of people who will leave Fishlabs has not been specified.
The studio's management described the decision to lay off employees as difficult but necessary. They stated that this step was taken due to changing requirements for the project currently being worked on by Fishlabs, as well as a reassessment of the needs of the studio's partners and internal teams.
Fishlabs is one of the studios still operating under the wing of Embracer Group. However, next year it, along with many other subsidiaries, will be acquired by Fellowship Entertainment, which is preparing to separate from the holding.
Fishlabs is best known for the Galaxy on Fire series of games. In recent years, it has mainly been assisting various Embracer Group studios with the development of their projects. For example, Fishlabs has contributed to Satisfactory, Dead Island 2, Valheim, and Goat Simulator 3.
