Funcom will conduct layoffs and appoint a new CEO
The company Funcom has announced another restructuring. The reason is their desire to focus on supporting and developing only two games — Dune: Awakening and Conan Exiles.
Dune: Awakening
Funcom also justified the reshuffle by stating that currently, more people are working on Dune: Awakening than necessary.
"Transitioning from full-scale production to long-term post-release operations requires a different organization. We would like to keep everyone on the team who helped create Dune: Awakening, but as we move to the next stage, we cannot maintain the same scale and structure needed during the peak of development," said Funcom's statement.
How many people will leave Funcom is unknown.
Simultaneously, Funcom announced changes in its leadership. At the end of the year, CEO Rui Casais will step down, and veteran Scott Junior, with 25 years of experience, will become the new head.
These are not the first layoffs at Funcom recently. In October 2025, Funcom already conducted a restructuring with staff reductions. At the same time, it closed The Outsiders studio, known for Metal: Hellsinger.
