The ban on online betting in Brazil has led to the dismissal of several thousand people

At the end of September, the Brazilian authorities temporarily banned online betting in the country. As discovered by the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), the decision cost many professionals their jobs.

According to the regulator's estimates, by mid-October, approximately 3,500 workers in the sector had been laid off. An additional 4,100 were placed on forced leave.

It is estimated that a total of 51% of the betting industry's personnel, which in Brazil is estimated at around 15,000 people, was affected by the introduction of restrictions.

As predicted by ANJL, the situation could worsen even further in the next three months. According to them, some companies are awaiting decisions from the Supreme Federal Court and the National Congress of Brazil regarding the legality of the ban on online betting. If the restrictions are not lifted, at least part of the people sent on leave will be dismissed.
