Schell Games is said to have conducted layoffs of its workforce

Schell Games, known for its collaboration on Among Us 3D and the creation of the I Expect You to Die series, has reportedly reduced its workforce.
As detailed by Game Developer, along with several LinkedIn updates from the studio's employees, the layoffs commenced last Friday.
“Schell Games had their first ever layoffs today,” stated a principal engineering manager at the studio, who noted they remained employed.
The manager added, “This is not a reflection of your actions. Our industry and many others are currently experiencing significant challenges.”
The marketing team was affected by the layoffs, as confirmed by Marketing Director Dwayne Waite Jr., who identified four impacted individuals. Additionally, names from the art, design, and visual effects sectors were mentioned by the senior public relations manager.
According to the updates, approximately 14 employees were let go. Schell Games' LinkedIn page indicates the company has a workforce of 51-200 people.
The senior PR manager expressed disappointment about the layoffs after nearly six years with the firm, but acknowledged a sense of pride in their contributions and gratitude for workplace relationships.
These staff reductions occur despite CEO and founder Jesse Schell's public opposition to job cuts.
In a 2024 conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, Schell emphasized handling financial risks independently from staffing challenges, saying, “We choose not to endanger jobs. We'll risk capital on our projects, but not our employees' positions.”
He further elaborated, “Even if our original works generate no revenue, there remains a sustainable path to retain our team. Fundamentally, it's about making choices.”
