In a recent development, OtherSide Entertainment has reduced its workforce by cutting 18 positions from those working on the Thick as Thieves project. The Boston-based firm conveyed to Game Developer that maintaining the current configuration of the studio is no longer economically feasible.

This decision follows the initial positive reception of Thick as Thieves' introductory campaign, released in May. The game was distributed by Megabit, a subsidiary of Aonic Group, which had acquired OtherSide earlier in 2023, as noted in an acquisition report.

The company expressed gratitude for the exceptional effort by its team and lamented the outcomes after exploring various solutions. Currently, less than ten employees are retained to ensure the game's performance remains stable. A company representative confirmed that there are no immediate plans to initiate any new gaming projects.

The layoffs come after another event last month, where 17 positions were terminated due to the cancellation of a project known as Argos. The challenging environment in the gaming industry was cited as the reason for deeming Argos currently non-viable.

Founded by Paul Neurath in 2014, OtherSide Entertainment faced another significant change when Tencent acquired the rights to its System Shock franchise in 2020, leading to another wave of layoffs.
