In France, a strike will be held due to mass layoffs in gaming companies

The French STJV union announced a nationwide strike in protest against extensive layoffs that have been occurring regularly in the local game development sector. The strike is scheduled for this week, on June 25.

The strike will commence with a picket outside the Paris office of Quantic Dream. A month ago, the studio decided to shut down the servers for Spellcaster Chronicles and lay off a portion of the staff. According to STJV, approximately 115 employees, constituting a quarter of Quantic Dream’s workforce, could face layoffs.

STJV claims that the French gaming industry is currently in a critical state. The union stated that part of the blame lies with incompetent top managers who could have avoided the situation with mass layoffs but failed to take effective actions. STJV urged studio employees to stand against such leaders and hold them accountable.

The union also demanded that the French authorities stop subsidizing gaming companies that engage in "dubious work practices without any oversight."
