The total number of people who lost their jobs is unknown. It is stated that the layoffs impacted the customer support service, HR department, IT team, and a number of other divisions.
According to Kotaku, the company decided to reduce staff as part of a "process of adapting work to better meet the changing needs of fans."
This is already the third round of layoffs at EA since the beginning of the year. Let's recall, in February the company conducted layoffs at Full Circle, and in March—at Battlefield Studios.
News of the new layoffs emerged amidst the impending completion of EA's sale to a consortium of investors for $55 billion. The new owners of the company are expected to be Silver Lake, Affinity Partners, and the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Wealth Fund in the coming months. EA declined to comment on the situation to Kotaku.
