Kabam, the studio behind Marvel Contest of Champions, has implemented layoffs involving an unspecified number of employees as part of a consolidation effort in its Los Angeles office.

Kabam, the company behind Marvel Contest of Champions, has recently reduced its workforce as it consolidates operations in Los Angeles, California. Although it is confirmed by Game Developer, specific details regarding the number of affected employees have not been disclosed. No WARN notices appear to have been filed with California's Employment Development Department.
A Kabam representative noted the decision followed a review of the company's strategic goals, leading to an office consolidation in Los Angeles. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency, although it was not taken lightly. The company's commitment to its partners and project slate remains strong despite the change.
So far, an individual affected by the layoffs has mentioned their dismissal on LinkedIn while seeking new employment opportunities. Kabam's Los Angeles office originated from its 2015 acquisition of Tapzen and Magic Pixel Games, studios established by industry figure Mike Verdu. These acquisitions were eventually integrated into a new Kabam unit located in Culver City, led by Verdu.
In 2017, Kabam was purchased by South Korean company Netmarble. Five years later, in 2022, it was integrated into Netmarble's American division, resulting in another branch located in Los Angeles operating under the Kabam banner.
While widely recognized for Marvel Contest of Champions, which has earned significant revenue, Kabam also collaborated with Disney on the game Disney Mirrorverse. This partnership concluded when the game was retired in December 2024.
Kabam has also experienced layoffs during both 2022 and 2023.
