Warren Spector's studio has conducted layoffs and canceled a new game
The team at OtherSide Entertainment, led by industry veterans Warren Spector and Paul Neurath, has been reduced by 17 employees.
Thick as Thieves
A representative of OtherSide Entertainment reported the layoffs in a comment to Game Developer. He added that the affected employees left the team at the end of May after the studio decided to halt development on its next game codenamed Argos.
The OtherSide Entertainment representative did not delve deeply into the details of the situation. He merely mentioned that the canceled game could have been successful in "normal times," but under the current market conditions, continuing development was not viable. After weighing everything, the studio had to abandon both Argos and some of its developers.
Notably, shortly before the layoffs, OtherSide Entertainment released an introductory campaign for the stealth action game Thick as Thieves on Steam. Official sales data for the game has not yet been disclosed, but if we believe Gamalytic's figures, it has sold 70,400 copies to date. Whether the launch metrics of Thick as Thieves influenced the studio's decision remains uncertain.
