Ubisoft's San Francisco branch affected by recent wave of layoffs

Ubisoft is reportedly undergoing a series of workforce reductions across multiple locations, including its San Francisco team. On the same day the company revealed plans to shut down studios in Winnipeg and Belgrade, as well as make modifications in Barcelona, reports emerged that significant layoffs also occurred at its San Francisco office.

According to Insider Gaming, an internal meeting earlier today announced these layoffs, which are part of Ubisoft's ongoing restructuring strategy aimed at optimizing operations. A total of 380 positions could potentially be affected company-wide.

While specific figures for the San Francisco office remain uncertain, it is estimated that between 50 to 100 employees might lose their jobs. Previously, in August 2024, 45 workers were released from the San Francisco studio and Red Storm Entertainment located in Cary, North Carolina. The San Francisco branch was notably responsible for the development of the online shooter, XDefiant.
