Polyarc Games, a developer specializing in virtual reality, is experiencing layoffs
Update, April 1, 2026: According to GamesIndustry.biz, Polyarc Games has announced that 30 employees are affected by the recent layoffs.
Initial report, March 31, 2026: Polyarc Games, a virtual reality developer in Seattle, has revealed widespread layoffs across its team, without specifying the number of employees laid off at that time.
Best known for creating the game Moss, Polyarc explained that they couldn't secure new funding following the termination of a significant project.
The company expressed on LinkedIn their need to significantly downsize, expressing gratitude to those leaving for their contributions.
They conveyed appreciation for the work and creativity of their team, thanking them for shaping their cultural and gaming endeavors.
GamesIndustry.biz has sought further details on the exact number of employees affected.
Polyarc Games was established in 2015 by Bungie veterans Tam Armstrong, Danny Bulla, and Chris Alderson.
The company initially raised $3.5 million in 2016 for Moss development and later obtained $9 million in Series B funding in 2020 to enter the augmented reality arena.
This downsizing at Polyarc is a part of a larger pattern within the VR sector. Earlier this year, Meta's Reality Labs saw a 10% workforce reduction, resulting in the shutdown of Twisted Pixel Games, Sanzaru Games, and Armature Studio.
Further cuts at Meta have been reported, affecting around 700 positions, including those in Reality Labs.
A Meta spokesperson commented that the company routinely reviews and adjusts team structures to align with their objectives, ensuring opportunities for affected employees where feasible.
