Pixelberry Studios, the developer behind the game Choices, has implemented staff layoffs
Pixelberry Studios, known for its popular episodic mobile series Choices, is reportedly undergoing staffing reductions.
Currently, there has been no official statement from the company, but GameDeveloper has noted that several ex-employees have mentioned their job losses on LinkedIn last week. A developer from the studio indicated that "another layoff hit Choices [on Friday]."
The exact number of employees affected or the assistance provided to them remains uncertain.
"[I]f you ever see another Pixelberry alum come across your desk, know that they are some of the most brilliant, talented, and hard working people you could hire," stated Emi Moore, a senior game writer who was included in the layoffs. "They will do amazing things and honestly I'm so sad I won't get to come in everyday and see what amazing things we can make anymore," she expressed.
In July 2024, Series Entertainment took over the studio renowned for its narrative-focused, episodic mobile games. This move was part of Series' plan to enhance its studio network with a diverse range of genres using its cutting-edge Rho Engine technology, which is described as the first "AI-native, multimodal full-stack game creation platform".
Though the layoffs were not publicly acknowledged then, former developers from Pixelberry revealed that they had established a new venture, Candlelight Games, in that period.
