In line with a larger strategic effort to cut costs globally, Ubisoft Toronto has eliminated 40 positions. Despite these changes, work on the Splinter Cell remake is set to continue, along with various co-development efforts like those for Rainbow Six.

Ubisoft conveyed in a statement to GamesIndustry.biz that the decision was difficult and not a reflection on the employees affected. "Our main concern is to assist those impacted by offering extensive severance and strong career placement support," the company assured.

According to a report from MobileSyrup, an internal email noted that Ubisoft Toronto will continue to play a significant role in various co-development and service team assignments.

These layoffs come as part of Ubisoft's corporate restructuring initiative that was revealed in the preceding month, affecting multiple studios.

This restructuring has also resulted in the closures of several Ubisoft locations, including the Stockholm and Halifax studios. Additionally, Ubisoft has shelved the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake and three other new projects.

Following these actions, the company also introduced a voluntary redundancy program at Ubisoft International in Paris, aiming to cut 200 positions.
