Riot Games to lay off half of the 2XKO developers

The free-to-play fighting game set in the League of Legends universe attracted fewer people than the company anticipated.

2XKO

Executive Producer Tom Cannon announced layoffs within the 2XKO team on the company’s blog. In his statement, he didn't specify how many people would lose their jobs, but later Riot Games clarified in a comment to the media that the layoffs will affect 80 specialists — roughly half of the game's developers.

According to Cannon, the affected employees will first be offered positions within other Riot Games teams. Those who cannot be retained will receive severance pay and compensation in the amount of at least six months’ salary.

Cannon emphasized that 2XKO will continue to be developed, despite the layoffs.

2XKO debuted in early access on PC on October 7, 2025. It reached PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series just a few weeks ago (January 20, 2026), marking its full release.
