Another round of layoffs has reportedly been initiated by Starbreeze
Reports indicate that Starbreeze, the developer of Payday, has implemented a second wave of layoffs within just two months.
According to Insider Gaming, several workers took to LinkedIn to announce they were impacted by these job cuts. One such individual, former QA worker Alexander Pereswetoff-Morath, expressed that he is now pursuing new opportunities after spending more than seven years with the company—his longest tenure in any industry.
Furthermore, Sabina af Jochnick, a senior tech producer, shared her position had been marked vulnerable to redundancy.
Other affected employees include Kim Sjöberg, a former gameplay programmer, and Mark Trusov, who was a sound designer.
The outlet GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Starbreeze for more details, especially regarding the total number of employees affected by the recent layoffs.
In October of the previous year, Starbreeze dismissed around 44 staff members following the termination of its Dungeons & Dragons project, known as Project Baxter. This decision was part of a strategic realignment aimed at prioritizing the expansion of its Payday series. While some members of the Project Baxter team were repositioned within the company, others, including both permanent employees and contractors, faced layoffs.
Significant changes in leadership have also occurred at Starbreeze. Tobias Sjögren resigned from the CEO position in March 2024, with board member Juergen Goeldner temporarily stepping in. However, Goeldner was replaced by former CFO Mats Juhl as interim CEO in May. The following March, Adolf Kristjansson, who had previously worked at Electronic Arts, took over as CEO, allowing Juhl to return to his duties as CFO.
