The failure of Wildgate led to layoffs at Moonshot Games, the studio that developed the game
The number of people who left Moonshot Games has not been disclosed.

In a comment to the Game Developer portal, a representative of Dreamhaven — the parent company of Moonshot Games — stated that Wildgate attracted too few players. Even the recent free giveaway of the shooter on Epic Games Store did not resolve the situation. Although the game's audience did grow after the promotion, it still wasn’t large enough to secure all jobs at Moonshot Games.
Dreamhaven emphasized that despite the layoffs in the development team, they will continue to develop Wildgate.
To recall, Wildgate is a multiplayer shooter set in space. The game was released in July 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. At the end of the summer, Bloomberg reported that Wildgate sold only 130,000 copies in its debut month, falling short of its creators' expectations.
Interestingly, there had been prior layoffs at Dreamhaven itself. In September, the company announced that it had to cut some staff following the failure of Wildgate and the unsuccessful launch of the turn-based tactic game Sunderfolk.
