The gaming industry is seeing an increasing number of unions. Now, the Canadian studio Ubisoft Halifax has announced the formation of a labor union.

In a conversation with CTV News, Canadian developers revealed that they initially attempted to create a union last summer, but Ubisoft management opposed the initiative. It took several meetings with the managers to convince them otherwise.
Ubisoft Halifax became the first Ubisoft team in North America to form a union. The union's formation was approved by 73.8% of the studio’s employees, amounting to 61 people.
Ubisoft Halifax focuses on developing mobile games. For instance, they have contributed to Assassin’s Creed Rebellion and the upcoming Rainbow Six Mobile, whose global release is scheduled for February 23, 2026.
This is the second gaming union creation announced in December: two weeks ago, id Software shared a similar news. Their launch occurred amid a scandal involving the firing of union activists at Rockstar Games, which caused such an uproar that UK authorities decided to investigate the situation.
