Crystal Dynamics has announced a third round of layoffs for the year, impacting 30 employees

Crystal Dynamics has conducted its third series of staff reductions this year, impacting 30 workers from multiple departments and initiatives.

Announced via LinkedIn, the company stated the need to "optimize" development of its key Tomb Raider project and other future endeavors as industry shifts continue.

The collaboration with Amazon Games to publish the new Tomb Raider installment was confirmed in 2022. "Our deepest gratitude goes to those affected for their immense skill and effort, which greatly shaped our studio," the developer expressed.

"We pledge our full support and resources during this transition," they added, citing ongoing support from stakeholders and anticipation of showcasing their team's future achievements to the world.

Earlier in August, Crystal Dynamics had already disclosed an unspecified number of layoffs, attributing the action to "evolving business conditions" necessary for the studio's longevity and core priorities amidst a dynamic market.

This followed a March reduction of 17 positions, aimed at aligning the business strategy with future success goals.

Furthermore, Crystal Dynamics had collaborated on the Perfect Dark reboot with The Initiative, which was terminated alongside the closure of The Initiative, stemming from larger layoffs at Microsoft Gaming.

This broader downsizing at Microsoft impacted multiple entities including King, ZeniMax, Raven Software, Turn 10, and Blizzard, and resulted in the cancellation of Rare's Everwild.

In September 2023, an additional 10 employees were let go due to restructuring within its parent company Embracer.
