Starbreeze has decided to cancel Project Baxter, leading to layoffs that impact around 44 employees

Starbreeze Entertainment has decided to cancel its Dungeons & Dragons game service, known as Project Baxter, to focus resources on its Payday series. This move comes after a strategic evaluation of the company's priorities.
The shift will result in some team members being reassigned to other projects within the company. However, about 44 employees and contractors face job losses. The exact number remains uncertain due to ongoing discussions with unions, according to information provided to Game Developer.
The cancellation leads to a financial adjustment of approximately SEK 255 million ($27.2 million) for the third quarter of 2025.
Starbreeze CEO, Adolf Kristjansson, commented on the decision, stating, "This allows us to enhance our offerings, engage more with Payday's content, and cement Starbreeze's role in the heist game genre."
Kristjansson expressed gratitude to those involved with Project Baxter and acknowledged the support from Wizards of the Coast. He emphasized the pride in the achievements made and affirmed that the lessons learned will benefit Payday's development.
