The creators of Dune: Awakening decided to carry out layoffs despite the success of the game

Although Dune: Awakening achieved the best launch sales in Funcom's history, it did not save its developers from layoffs. The studio announced a restructuring.

As Funcom explained, the restructuring is largely related to plans for the further development of Dune: Awakening. The studio is currently preparing for the game's release on consoles and transitioning from the development phase to the long-term support phase, all of which entail a reallocation of resources.

Funcom is not yet ready to disclose the exact number of people who will lose their jobs.

Recall, Dune: Awakening was released on June 10, 2025, on PC. In the first two weeks, the multiplayer survival game set in the Dune universe sold over a million copies.
