Media: BioWare employees fear they will be among the first to face layoffs after the sale by Electronic Arts

The decision by Electronic Arts (EA) to sell to a group of investors has concerned BioWare employees, writes the portal Insider Gaming. According to their report, the studio is anticipating massive layoffs.

Rumors suggest BioWare expects further major layoffs in light of EA's sale

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Several anonymous developers from BioWare told Insider Gaming that a bleak mood has dominated the studio since the unsuccessful launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. A few months post-launch, EA drastically reduced the BioWare staff — by early 2025, fewer than a hundred employees remained. Despite the significant scale of the cutbacks, there are doubts within BioWare that this marks the end.

According to Insider Gaming's sources, if EA decides to lay off more people in its subsidiary teams after going private, BioWare could be one of the first affected. Consequently, some studio employees are already updating their portfolios and preparing to seek new employment.

It's claimed that EA even considered selling BioWare in the recent past, but Insider Gaming was unable to ascertain the final decision.

Despite the oppressive atmosphere, BioWare is actively working on the next installment of Mass Effect. As reported by Insider Gaming, the game has recently received more resources, and its team has expanded.
