2K has announced that there has been a "staff reduction" at Firaxis, the studio behind the development of Civ and XCOM games

2K has announced a "reduction" in workforce at Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization and XCOM.
While specific numbers are not yet disclosed, Game Developer reports that "dozens of employees" are affected. Several former staff members have acknowledged the layoffs on LinkedIn.
As of now, neither Firaxis nor 2K have commented on the layoffs through their social media platforms, nor have they explained how this will affect the recent release of Civilization 7, which debuted in February.
A 2K spokesperson mentioned in a statement to Game Developer that Firaxis underwent a "staff reduction" to "restructure and optimize" the studio, enhancing "adaptability, collaboration, and creativity."
Interestingly, these layoffs occur while Take-Two Interactive, the parent company, reported a 16% rise in net bookings, reaching $1.42 billion in the fiscal year's first quarter, surpassing their projected range of $1.25 billion to $1.3 billion.
Approximately 4,400 developers have been let go in 2025, not including the unreported numbers from today’s Firaxis layoffs and similar incidents at Dreamhaven.
