2K has announced a "staff reduction" at Firaxis, the studio known for developing Civilization and XCOM

2K has announced reductions in the workforce at Firaxis, the studio known for developing games such as Civilization and XCOM.
The exact number of employees affected remains uncertain, but Game Developer reports that the reorganization involves "dozens of workers," with some confirming their layoffs on LinkedIn.
As of now, neither Firaxis nor 2K has addressed the layoffs on their social media platforms, nor have they provided information on how this decision will affect their latest game, Civilization 7, which debuted in February.
In a statement to Game Developer, a representative from 2K acknowledged that Firaxis Games experienced a "staff reduction" as part of efforts to "restructure and optimize" the company for "adaptability, collaboration, and creativity."
These layoffs occur despite the fact that their parent company, Take-Two Interactive, reported a 16% rise in net bookings, reaching $1.42 billion for their first fiscal quarter. This amount exceeded the projected guidance range of $1.25 billion to $1.3 billion.
Overall, this contributes to the approximately 4,400 developers who have lost employment in 2025, though this statistic does not include today's job cuts at Firaxis and Dreamhaven, as these studios have not publicly disclosed the number of layoffs.
