Dreamhaven, helmed by co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime, has recently undergone a series of layoffs. Announcing the development via LinkedIn, Morhaime disclosed the difficult decision to scale down the company's publishing division. However, he did not enumerate the number of employees impacted.
"These decisions are challenging as they involve parting with talented individuals who have significantly contributed to Dreamhaven's establishment and our numerous activities this year," Morhaime stated. "Their efforts, from orchestrating the Dreamhaven Showcase to launching three games, have been integral in advancing our mission. I sincerely appreciate the creativity, commitment, and labor of the departing team members."
Morhaime also acknowledged the broader industry context, stating: "This announcement coincides with a period when many industry peers are confronting similar issues. To assist our former colleagues, we've offered separation packages and ensured benefits coverage."
Additionally, Dreamhaven has teamed up with Amir Satvat's Games Community to aid affected employees in finding new career opportunities and mentoring.
Despite the setback, Morhaime expressed hope about the company’s trajectory, noting, "While today's news is difficult, I'm hopeful about what lies ahead for Dreamhaven."
In communication with PC Gamer, Dreamhaven confirmed that the layoffs do not impact the ongoing development of projects like Wildgate and Sunderfolk.
The layoffs occurred after a Bloomberg article referenced an internal communication from Morhaime indicating that "monthly expenses are surpassing revenue."
Established by Morhaime in 2020 after leaving his position as Blizzard Entertainment president, Dreamhaven continues its journey in the gaming industry.
