It is reported that over 450 individuals voted in favor of creating the new union. Among them are programmers, artists, designers, support staff, and many others. The union will operate under the larger umbrella of the Communications Workers of America.
Microsoft, the parent company of Blizzard Entertainment, has already recognized the union.
According to activists, they decided to unionize due to repeated mass layoffs within Microsoft's gaming division. The developers hope that now they are in a safer position.
In the past year and a half, Blizzard Entertainment employees have formed at least three other unions. These were organized by the Overwatch 2 team, the World of Warcraft team, and the franchise development division.
