Media: Former King employees decided to sue the company over low severance payments upon dismissal

In July, Microsoft conducted mass layoffs, which also affected developers from King. The MobileGamer portal discovered that not all terminated King employees parted on good terms. At least some of the former employees have gathered to sue the company.

The dissatisfaction reportedly arises not only from the layoffs but also from the small size of the severance packages.

It is unknown how many people plan to, or have already filed lawsuits against King and Microsoft. It is worth noting that around 200 employees, or 10% of the workforce, were laid off from the mobile company.

MobileGamer reports that the layoffs at King were generally chaotic. Some employees felt that the company simply let go of the highest-paid specialists, except for those with whom they had built trust relationships. Allegedly, during the layoffs, neither the duration of employment nor contributions to projects mattered.

Sources from MobileGamer described layoffs in the team working on the Farm Heroes Saga game as especially illogical. According to them, this puzzle game is almost the only King game close to achieving the KPI for 2025. However, its team still lost half of its members.

Interestingly, some laid-off employees were rehired by King just weeks after the layoffs. Despite this, MobileGamer sources do not rule out the possibility of further layoffs in the future.
