Bithell Games has disclosed layoffs, impacting the "majority of full-time staff" with redundancies

The majority of Bithell Games' full-time employees have been let go, according to an announcement by the company.
Mike Bithell, the head of the studio, posted on Bluesky that eleven positions were cut due to the lack of funding for a "new larger scale project."
Bithell stated, "With the launch of our latest title [Tron: Catalyst], we encountered the same funding challenges impacting many game development studios looking for partners in 2024 and 2025."
He further explained that the company had prepared its team in advance about the potential funding issues and has worked to mitigate the impact through severance packages. He praised the team as extremely skilled individuals.
Bithell assured that these layoffs "will not affect the availability and support of our existing self-published games."
Among those laid off was Rich Stubbs, a senior animator.
Stubbs commented on LinkedIn, "I've unfortunately been made redundant, just like many others in the industry at the moment."
He highlighted his experience at Bithell Games as remarkable, especially being the sole animator on a Disney project, which he considers a significant achievement.
"Much love and respect to the studio and all colleagues I've had the pleasure to work with through the years," he added.
Founded in 2013, Bithell Games gained recognition with Thomas Was Alone and has also developed titles such as Tron: Identity, John Wick: Hex, and The Banished Vault.
