The Electronic Arts staff grows annually despite layoffs

Over the past three years, Electronic Arts (EA) has periodically conducted mass layoffs, but this has not prevented its workforce from growing. This observation was made by journalist Stephen Totilo from Game File, who examined the company's annual reports.

Totilo noted that at the end of fiscal 2025, which concluded on March 31, 2025, the number of EA employees was 14,500. This is 800 people or 5.8% more than at the end of March 2024. In turn, by the end of 2024, EA's workforce increased by 2.2% compared to 2023.

Here is the number of people employed at EA as of March 31 in different years:

  • 2015 — 8,400;
  • 2016 — 8,500;
  • 2017 — 8,800;
  • 2018 — 9,300;
  • 2019 — 9,700;
  • 2020 — 9,800;
  • 2021 — 11,000;
  • 2022 — 12,900;
  • 2023 — 13,400;
  • 2024 — 13,700;
  • 2025 — 14,500.

It is worth mentioning that reports of large-scale layoffs at EA surfaced quite recently. Two weeks ago, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier discovered that the company intends to lay off 300 to 400 employees, 100 of whom are developers from the Respawn Entertainment studio. EA then confirmed the layoffs to the media but did not disclose their scale.

In 2024, the Drucker Institute ranked EA 186th among the best-managed public companies in the USA.
