Meta has enacted layoffs affecting an unspecified number of employees in its Reality Labs division

Meta has implemented layoffs within its Reality Labs segment, impacting various teams at Oculus Studios. Although the exact number of job cuts remains undisclosed, sources from Bloomberg suggest that over 100 employees have been affected.

Tracy Clayton, a spokesperson for Meta, revealed that these layoffs are intended to enhance the efficiency of Oculus Studios. Clayton noted that restructuring within teams and role adjustments have inevitably influenced the workforce size, particularly to bolster the creation of mixed reality experiences for an expanding audience while maintaining a high standard of content delivery.

Meta affirmed its dedication to investing in mixed reality ventures, with an emphasis on both fitness and gaming, ensuring the ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for the Quest and Supernatural user communities.

According to sources from The Verge, employees in hardware were among those affected, while Bloomberg highlighted that reductions also occurred in operational roles, though Meta has not provided further commentary on these specifics.

The VR fitness game Supernatural was among the titles impacted by these organizational changes, as noted in a Facebook post by the team, emphasizing an aim to enhance operational efficiency.

UploadVR reported similar layoff activities at Sanzaru Games, which Meta acquired in 2020, where developer Asgard's Wrath is based. Former employee Carlos Guiterrez indicated on LinkedIn that multiple positions were eliminated in February 2025.

Earlier in 2025, Meta announced a strategy to reduce its workforce by 5%, potentially putting around 3,600 jobs in jeopardy as part of "performance-based cuts." Notifications for affected U.S. employees went out on February 10, with international staff being informed subsequently.

In March 2023, an initiative by Meta to slash 10,000 positions and close 5,000 unfilled roles was undertaken to improve its financial conditions.
