Bossa Games experiences layoffs of an unspecified number of employees

Bossa Games has undergone another series of layoffs, affecting an undisclosed number of employees.

Co-founder and co-CEO Henrique Olifiers announced the decision on LinkedIn, stating that the company is downsizing its team after the release of Lost Skies.

Olifiers explained, "We've had to make the painful decision to scale back, focusing on the late-state production of Lost Skies and its upcoming launch, ensuring the game is successfully released and evolved for its players for the foreseeable future."

He mentioned future plans, saying, "Once Lost Skies is established and enjoying live operations, we'll reshape into small teams working independently on novel game ideas brought to players as early as possible."

He expressed regret about the circumstances, saying, "We wish we had found a way of navigating this turmoil without resorting to the decision of scaling back our teams, but unfortunately we've failed this endeavor."

Olifiers cited significant changes in the gaming industry as influencing their decision. He remarked on the disruptions faced by the industry over the past couple of years, with numerous studios and teams being downsized or closed altogether.

He noted, "We've read all the news, suffered through the changes ourselves or seen it through the eyes of peers and colleagues affected."

Towards the end of 2023, the studio had reduced its workforce by approximately one third, leaving 40 employees to focus on Lost Skies.

Olifiers attributed these layoffs to the competitive environment for AA and indie games against major AAA titles, along with rising operational costs and slow funding decisions.
