A US-based support studio for Marvel's Rivals has experienced layoffs
An American support studio for Marvel Rivals has experienced job cuts, as confirmed by NetEase Games. The company explained to PC Gamer that the reduction affected a design team located in Seattle for "organizational reasons."
In their statement, NetEase noted, "We recently made the difficult decision to adjust Marvel Rivals' development team structure for organisational reasons and to optimise development efficiency for the game. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of those affected and will be treating them confidentially and respectfully for their individual contributions."
While the exact number of employees affected was not disclosed, NetEase confirmed there are no remaining developers in Seattle working on the project. The company emphasized that the main development team situated in China is still fully dedicated and plans to further invest in the game's development and growth.
Level designer Garry McGee, who was among those laid off, shared his experience on LinkedIn. He mentioned that his team had been integral to the game's development and launch, which exceeded expectations in success. Unfortunately, the team was subsequently let go. McGee expressed that working on Marvel Rivals was an excellent opportunity that allowed him to expand his skill set beyond his primary responsibilities.
When Marvel Rivals launched in December, it saw an impressive start, amassing over 10 million players within its first 72 hours, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
